It is an immense pleasure to welcome you to the official website of the Rohingya National League (RNL) The Rohingya National League was established in the year 2019 (Even if we established the organization in 2019, we made it fully operational in 2020), a challenging moment, indeed, for all Rohingya people throughout the history of persecution they have experienced. We, The Rohingya, have lived with this historical discrimination, statelessness and the outright genocidal persecution that drove the vast majority from their homes in Myanmar to Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, 860,000 Rohingya are forced to survive in overcrowded settlements with very limited resources, and 130,000 of us continue to be trapped in displacement camps under heavily restricted circumstances in Rakhine State where Rohingya are deprived of education, health, the free movement and their livelihoods. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbate the already catastrophic situation, and we, the Rohingyans have been subjected to travel restrictions imposed at a camp level to make it more difficult to seek the meager assistance that’s available, at risk of death we ventured out by sea to a neighboring country resulting in maritime incidents of crisis where countless Rohingya had lost their lives.
While back at the original land back in Myanmar where more inter- ethnic warfare between the Myanmar military and Arakan Army has posed serious threats on the vulnerable Rohingyans in what they call as conflict zone while their very life is under threatening by all kind of repressions by not even allowing us to come back to our ancestral home with security or any kind of equal civic rights for us to live. We were also, in the same year, accorded a glimmer of hope from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which mandated Myanmar to take the most severe and appropriate measures to prevent further acts of genocide; however this promise has yet to be fully realized; Our struggle continues.
Amid this dire and unprecedented situation a group of ambitious, resilient Rohingya youth leaders, academicians, professionals, and activists recognized an overwhelming urgency to create an organized, democratic, and independent voice for The Rohingya to collectively defend our cause for justice and seek opportunities in the quest for an equitable future; It was within this pressing, historical necessity that the Rohingya National League was brought into being. Since its inception, RNL has worked with unwavering devotion to champion the rights, dignities, and collective aspirations of the Rohingya people, advocating tirelessly for justice, accountability, citizenship rights, education, humanitarian assistance, youth leadership, and ultimately, for the safe, voluntarily, dignified and sustainable return of Rohingya to our homeland under security guarantees.
We firmly believe that representation must not only exist for the sake of existence, but must also translate to effective empowerment that directly allows for, and enriches The Rohingya people participation in decisions that are pertinent to our life, safety and future security; Our efforts are a convergence of diverse disciplines; it includes lobbying through advocacy, rigorous policy analysis through academic research, raising awareness with the public, grassroots engagement and international coalition building that all come together in order to build the Rohingya people more stronger and resilient while simultaneously contribute to fostering a more secure, equal, and equitable Myanmar through lasting peaceful means;
With that thought, as you browse the website of Rohingya National League. I personally invite individuals, groups, organizations, governments and institutions alike to be part of our journey. We are on the road towards progress where equal opportunity will no longer be an unrealized dream, nor will history and discrimination define us ever again. We are eager for any partnership you are willing to offer and have with the Rohingya people on the front line for justice.
Together, we transform our shared aspirations into tangible action that will create a safer, and better future for us as a people, with the right for us to exist with human dignities.
