Privacy policy

How we collect, use, and protect your information. Last updated July 16, 2026.

In short: we collect only what we need to process donations, answer messages, and send updates you asked for. We never sell your data. Given the sensitivity of our work, we take particular care with any information about people in Myanmar or the camps.

1. Who we are

The Rohingya National League (“the League”, “we”) is a registered non-profit organization, 1234 Liberty Avenue, Suite 210, Milwaukee, WI 53215, USA. This policy covers rohingyanationalleague.org and all data we process as an organization. We are the data controller for the personal information described here.

2. Information we collect

We collect information you give us directly:

  • Contact details — name and email when you subscribe, message us, or register for an event.
  • Donation details — name, email, billing address, and gift amount when you donate.
  • Volunteer applications — skills, availability, and location you choose to share.
  • Technical data — IP address, browser type, and pages visited, via cookies (see section 5).

3. How we use it

We use your information to:

  • process donations and issue tax receipts;
  • send the newsletter and appeals you subscribed to (unsubscribe any time, one click);
  • respond to messages, volunteer applications, and press inquiries;
  • meet legal, accounting, and audit obligations;
  • understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so we can improve it.

4. Donations & payment data

Card payments are processed by our payment providers; the League never sees or stores full card numbers. Donation records (name, amount, date) are retained as required by non-profit accounting law. Donor lists are never published, sold, or shared — donors appear in the annual report only with explicit written consent.

5. Cookies & analytics

We use strictly necessary cookies to make the site work (language choice, donation session) and privacy-respecting analytics to count visits in aggregate. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site trackers. You can decline non-essential cookies in the banner or through your browser settings.

6. Sharing & disclosure

We share personal data only with:

  • service providers who run our website, email, and payments — under contracts that forbid any other use;
  • auditors and authorities where the law requires it.
We never sell personal data. Because of the security situation facing our community, we apply heightened protection to any information that could identify individuals in Myanmar or the camps, and we do not disclose testimony-related data except to courts and accredited investigators under agreed safeguards.

7. Data security & retention

Data is stored on encrypted, access-controlled systems; access is limited to staff and vetted volunteers who need it for their role. We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above — donation records for the legally required period, newsletter data until you unsubscribe, and correspondence for up to two years.

8. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (including GDPR and CCPA), you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data; object to or restrict processing; and withdraw consent at any time. Write to us (section 9) and we will respond within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.
